The base fabric is a woven polyester with a double coating of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) for water resistance. The mat’s blue surface has a low-gloss finish that does not produce distracting reflections under ceiling lights. The mat is foldable via stitched creases into a 50 cm by 33 cm package, secured by touch-fastener tabs. The folded mat fits inside a typical tote bag. During soil mixing, the user can combine ingredients directly on the mat without needing a separate container; the raised border (1 cm high) contains dry materials. The mat is not intended for holding standing water for more than a few minutes, as prolonged exposure may seep through the seams.
